Hi from Foolitics: Welcome to the Political Circus

TL;DR

Foolitics is a political satire site. Nobody’s safe. Especially not us.

Here’s the basic problem. I like politics. I don’t like being screamed at about politics by people who discovered constitutional law yesterday afternoon on Facebook. Those are different things, and most of the internet has somehow combined them into one giant argument nobody remembers starting.

There’s already no shortage of places to watch politicians yell, pundits predict the collapse of civilization before lunch, and someone’s uncle upload a forty-seven-minute video explaining how the federal government is secretly run by three banks, four billionaires, and probably a tunnel. That machine works fine without me.

So I built something else. Foolitics exists to laugh at politics, media, and the ridiculous machinery connecting them, because sometimes the most reasonable response to modern political life is staring at your phone and asking, “Are these people serious?”

Usually, yes.

IS THIS A NEWS SITE?

No.

Please don’t storm into Thanksgiving dinner yelling “I read it on Foolitics.” Bad plan for you, administrative problem for me.

This is satire and entertainment. We’ll parody politicians, parties, media coverage, and whatever fresh species of lunacy crawls out of the news cycle that morning. Some of it references real events. Some exaggerates real events until they’re structurally unsafe. Some is completely made up. That distinction matters, and I’ll try to make it obvious which is which. If the headline says Congress replaced the national anthem with a five-hour podcast, maybe check somewhere else before calling your representative. I shouldn’t have to say that. I’ve met the internet. I’m saying it anyway.

WHY POLITICS?

Because it matters. Unfortunately, it’s also extremely stupid sometimes.

We built enormous institutions responsible for taxes, wars, roads, healthcare, and whether a sandwich legally counts as lunch. Then we handed them to people who occasionally forget the microphone is on. That’s a lot of material.

Political discussion doesn’t have to sound like six cable-news guests trapped in a dryer with a polling memo. You can care about something serious and still laugh at the circus around it. I don’t think that makes you shallow. I think it makes you sane. Though I’ll admit I’m not exactly a neutral party on that question, given what I do for a living.

NO LOYALTY OATH REQUIRED

I’m not interested in turning political humor into another team sport. Plenty of places will tell you one side is composed entirely of brave patriots and the other side personally invented inflation, mosquitoes, and your neighbor’s leaf blower. I don’t buy that from either direction, and I’m not selling it here.

Politicians can be foolish. Parties can be foolish. Voters can be foolish. The media can be foolish. Social media can achieve levels of foolishness previously thought impossible under laboratory conditions. And yes, this site can be foolish too. I picked the name carefully.

You don’t have to agree with everything published here. If you agree with all of it, one of us should probably get checked.

FAKE NEWS, REAL ABSURDITY

One subject I’ll keep coming back to is fake news, misinformation, satire, and the giant blender we’ve put all three into. The internet made real information incredibly easy to spread. Great. It also made complete bullshit incredibly easy to spread. Less great.

A rumor becomes a headline. The headline becomes a screenshot. Somebody adds three red circles and an arrow. Six hours later, twelve thousand people are demanding congressional hearings over something first posted by an account named PatriotEagleTruth1776.

That whole system is fascinating. It’s also exhausting. I want to poke at it without pretending every complicated problem gets solved by one more furious paragraph online. I’ve tried that approach personally, more than once, usually in a family group chat. Results remain inconclusive. Nobody has ever once texted back “actually, you’ve changed my mind.” Hahaha.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY FIND HERE

Political satire. Parody. Commentary on current events. Fake-news satire. Media stupidity. Internet stupidity. Political stupidity. Occasionally all three cooperate and save me some time.

The format will move around. Sometimes closer to straight commentary, sometimes full parody, sometimes a real headline is already so ridiculous that adding jokes feels like vandalism. That’s politics now. No editorial calendar survives contact with a senator holding a microphone.

WHAT YOU WON’T FIND HERE

I’m not trying to be your only source of information. Please have more than one. Read this, then read actual reporting, then maybe read something from someone you disagree with before deciding they’re a communist, fascist, globalist, or whatever word the internet is using incorrectly this week.

I’m also not interested in manufacturing outrage because outrage gets clicks. That market’s covered. The internet already produces political anger at roughly the same industrial scale Texas produces brisket. I don’t need to open another factory.

What I actually want is simpler: come here, read something clever or ridiculous, send it to somebody, argue about it if you absolutely can’t help yourself, and leave a little more entertained than when you arrived. That’s the bar. I’m comfortable with it being that low.

WELCOME

This is the first post. There will be more, assuming politics keeps behaving like a group project nobody’s supervising.

Some articles will be smarter than this one. Some will be significantly dumber. A few will probably manage both at once, which appears to be one of my core competencies.

Politics already decided it wants to be entertainment. Fine. Somebody should provide commentary from the cheap seats.

So here’s my actual question before you go: if you already know half of what you read today is going to turn out exaggerated, wrong, or completely made up — does it bother you more that I’m upfront about which half mine is?
